We enclose copy of a letter dated 2nd May from the Colonial Secretary's Office in Hongkong to our Manager at that port, from which you will see that it is intimated that in future the charges by the Royal Mint for the manufacture of Eritish Dollars will be £1-17/- per 1,000 pieces.
In connection with the above, we shall feel obliged if you will kindly inform us whether it is your intention that British Dollars may be coined at the Royal Mint in London instead of in India,
or are we to understand that they may be coined either in India or London, or will they be coined in London only in the event of the Indian Mints being unable to coin them owing to the prior claime of the Indian Government.
We shall also be glad to receive, for our future guidance,
a copy of the regulations showing what steps the Banks should take when tending silver at the Royal Mint for coinage into British Dollars.
We shall esteem it a favour if you will let us have an early
reply
